Ornate Side Table

I picked up this sad looking little side table a couple of weeks.  The previous owner had begun stripping of the veneer but never finished.

I have had to remove old broken veneer many times but I couldn't believe how difficult this one was.  In the end I used a chisel, very carefully so as not to gouge the wood.

Here she is all painted up in a coat of 1/2 Coco and 1/2 Old White, then dry brushed with a little old white.

I stained the top with 1 coat of Minwax Stain in Jacobean and finished with a two coats of clear wax for protection and a nice lustre.  I think she is quite pretty...

  3. Wow, so beautiful! I just love the revival of pieces that have seen better days, and you've definitely revived this piece :_)

A friend of mine just removed some tough veneer, and she used an iron, wet rag and a putty knife... I thought you might be interested in her tutorial, so here's the link in case you are.

I don't think I'm quite ready for a challenge like this one :-)

  4. What a transformation! I have a little table in my garage with incredibly stubborn veneer that I am about to give up on...so I know how much work it can be, even on the smallest of tables! The coco/old white mix is perfection here along with the dark stained top! I will be pinning this to my "Paint it Annie" board. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
    Best Wishes and Blessings,

  7. After you stripped the veneer, how did you refinish the wood?
