Come and gone!

Didn't get a chance to post this little antique piece on the For Sale page.  Painted in Duck Egg Blue, clear and dark waxed... so sweet!

Modern Home Victoria Feature - A French Touch

A French Touch
As an avid do it yourself-er, Debra Boeyenga, proprietor of A French Touch, enjoys the process of transforming cast-off and out of fashion furniture. Making older pieces look great within a budget, and without a lot of messy prep work, can prove challenging, so when Debra came across a new paint product online, she was intrigued. After watching it on blogs for about year and a half, she jumped at the chance to try the product when it finally became available in Canada.
French Touch
The product, Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan was such a game changer for Debra that seven weeks after first trying it, she was a stockist. Read More...

Antique Record Cabinet Repurposed - SOLD

This great old record cabinet sat in a second hand furniture store for a couple of years and had no takers.
Although the inside was charming, the records could only be stored without their sleeves so it limited potential buyers.
It could hold 50 records per shelf and still has the coordinating inventory lists inside the door (see picture at bottom)
Avert your eyes if you cannot handle the following picture.
We used a sawzall to remove all the dividers and rebuilt the shelves saving the charming number strips on each shelf.
I painted it in Arles and finished it with dark wax only.
She is even prettier in person.  Drop by the store and see for yourself.

Annie Sloan is coming to town!

We're thrilled to have Annie Sloan, one of the world's most popular experts in decorative painting, join us at both our 2013 Toronto Fall Home Show (Oct. 6, 2013) and our Vancouver Home + Design Show (Oct. 19, 2013).  As one of the world’s most respected experts in the field of decorative painting, Annie has been largely instrumental in the painted furniture revolution through her easy-to-approach, lively and creative attitude to painting.

Annie has developed an incredible paint brand called Chalk Paint.  Not actually meant for chalk, Annie's Chalk Paint sticks to almost anything without any priming or sanding!  This fast-drying miracle paint can be applied to wood, concrete, metal, matte pasting, earthenware, and much more indoors or out!

Annie Sloan • Paint & Colour: What is Chalk Paint®?

Annie Sloan • Paint & Colour: What is Chalk Paint®?: You may have noticed that there has been some confusion recently about what Chalk Paint® is. I would like to help make things clearer. So...

Painting the fabric on an Antique Rocker

I was this far into painting this antique rocker before realizing I didn't have a before picture. You have probably seen and heard that you can paint fabric with Chalk Paint™ decorative paint by Annie Sloan.
The fabric was in great condition, I just didn't like the colour.
The first coat covered beautifully.
Two coats of Old White over the fabric and the wood, finished with two coats of clear wax. Super easy.
Here she is, all done.
The fabric now feels like soft leather and will age beautifully and stand up to daily use.

Stunning antique dresser made in New York

Finished with Country Grey on the drawers and a 50/50 mix of Country Grey and Old White on the body.

SOLD - French Style Writing Desk

Everybody loves a before and after... here's another one. :)

Last week I picked up this writing desk from a great little consignment shop called Panache. They just moved to Burnside Road in Saanich.  Check them out if you get a chance.

I gave it a good cleaning and had to sand out a couple of raised spots on the top.

The top and the body was painted with a mix of Graphite and Old Ochre.

The second coat is Old Ochre.  Love this colour!

First a little wet distress, clear wax, lots of dark wax and a little more distressing.

The finished piece in the showroom.

Love the pop of Scandinavian Pink inside the drawers.

Drop by 1850 Oak Bay Ave and see it in person!

The Island Mavins Handmade and Vintage Market...

Thunderstorms were forecasted for the day of our market... Yikes!  We set up in a bit of a drizzle which was intermittent for most of the day. Despite the weather we had a great time! The vendors had fantastic goods and it was hard not to want to spend the money that I made. ☺
I did a few demonstration of the paint and people seemed to really enjoy that.

Almost everything in my booth has been "Sloaned"! ☺

These sewing boxes are also great for jewelry or makeup.

The market was held here at Point Ellice House.
The vendors were set up here and all throughout the gardens.
The little Harbour Ferry stops at Point Ellice House dock.

We hope to make this an annual event.  Special thanks to Sheila at French Vanilla Home and Garden who not only came up with the idea but organized the entire market!
